What the Test Actually Checks
The tool asks your browser for camera and microphone access, then confirms three things: your camera produces a live picture, your microphone picks up sound (speak and watch the level bar move), and your browser supports the camera API that cam2cam chat relies on. The preview you see is rendered straight from your own device — it is a mirror, not a broadcast.
Nothing here is uploaded, recorded or stored. When you leave the page or close the tab, the camera and microphone are released immediately.
Browser Compatibility
The test works in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop, and in Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android. If you are inside an in-app browser (opened from a social app), copy the link into your regular browser instead — many embedded webviews block camera access entirely.
Allowing Camera Access on Mobile
iPhone (Safari): tap the aA icon in the address bar, open Website Settings, and set Camera and Microphone to Allow. Reload the page once.
Android (Chrome): tap the lock icon in the address bar, open Permissions, and allow Camera and Microphone. Reload the page once.
If your phone earlier answered "Never" to a permission prompt, the setting lives in your system settings under the browser's app entry.
Camera Test FAQ
Is my test video uploaded anywhere?
No. The preview is rendered locally in your own browser from your camera stream. Nothing is uploaded, recorded or stored on any server — closing or leaving the page releases the camera immediately.
Why does the browser ask for camera permission?
Browsers require your explicit permission before any website can see your camera or microphone. The test only starts after you click the button, and you can revoke the permission at any time from your browser settings.
The test says my camera is blocked. What do I do?
Look for the camera icon in your browser address bar, choose to allow camera and microphone access for this site, then run the test again. On desktop Chrome or Edge you can also open Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → Camera.
How do I allow camera access on my phone?
On iPhone, open the page in Safari, tap the aA icon in the address bar, open Website Settings and set Camera and Microphone to Allow. On Android Chrome, tap the lock icon in the address bar, open Permissions and allow Camera and Microphone. Then reload the page.
Which browsers does the camera test support?
Any modern browser with camera API support: current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop, plus Safari on iOS and Chrome on Android. Very old browsers or in-app webviews may not support camera access.
Do I need a camera to use Cam2Cam Chat?
A camera makes the two-way experience work the way it is meant to, but the test itself is free to run whether or not you continue into a chat afterwards.
